Our workforce is supported by our apprenticeship programme. We pride ourselves on our apprentices making up 13% of our workforce, above industry average at 4%, supporting our commitment to improving lives and creating opportunities for people in and outside of our organisation. We prioritise recruiting locally, creating jobs in the communities we work.
Early Careers
Early Stage Careers and Apprenticeships
Traditional routes and career paths are sometimes not always suitable for everyone looking to explore the industry, whereas our approach provides people with genuine experiences of earning while learning with the help and support of an experienced assigned mentor. Working on site or in an office based role with the team, you can make a real positive difference to the quality of people’s lives in the journey to net zero.
We believe that people should be provided with genuine choice. Our Early Stage Careers Programme provides people interested with several options of how to get involved and find their place.
Talent Training and Development
As well as apprenticeships, we look to identify and nurture talent within the Group with a variety of training and development opportunities.
We partner with higher and further education establishments to support work experience and skills development.
By regularly engaging with schools, colleges and social enterprises, we aim to promote the benefits and importance of energy efficiency measures, residential decarbonisation and UK Net Zero targets.
We provide our employees and our supply chain opportunities to enrol onto training and qualifications to retrain and/or upskill. In the past year, 70% of our workforce has been upskilled, showcasing our efforts to nurture internal talent, providing people with the opportunity to grow and be promoted from within, including appointments at every level of seniority.
To continue to develop our team, we have seen 75% of our employees enrolled onto vocational courses, encouraging growth and development in all we do.
Diversifying the Workforce
Diversifying our workforce is more than a statement on paper. We champion and celebrate women in construction making up 26% of our workforce. As we continue to encourage and lead the way in diversifying and embracing change in the workplace, we currently have an equal number of female and male apprentices in our teams.
